analysis of &#8220;corner cases&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"right-element\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The central aim of the project was to derive an industry consensus for a systematic methodology for the acceptance of AI functions in the field of autonomous driving.<br \/>\nThe quality of AI systems is of crucial importance, particularly in the complex field of autonomous driving.<br \/>\nHere, algorithms, traffic law and sensor technology must interact perfectly, even in the most unusual situations, in order to make the right decisions.<br \/>\nBecause where human lives are at stake, it is undoubtedly important to keep the error rate as low as possible.<br \/>\nThe requirements for QualityMinds were to create a synthetic data set and to identify and analyze<strong>&#8220;corner cases<\/strong>&#8221; (exceptional situations).<br \/>\nThis was to provide indications of the areas of the AI functions in which the corresponding neural network was not working as anticipated and where further action was required.     <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section id=\"block-665086d301289\"  class=\"tabs-section template-2\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"heading\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element\">\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center brand-subtitle wp-block-paragraph\">The solution:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">QualityMinds&#8217; outlook\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tabs\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tab \" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"0-0\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tab-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>QualityMinds is leading a work package dedicated to the development of a methodology for identifying corner cases (situations in which the neural network reacts to its environment in unexpected ways) and thus taking them into account for the quality of the training and test data.<br \/>\nIn addition, QualityMinds acts as a <\/strong> <strong>Gatekeeper (&#8220;Quality Gate&#8221;) by critically reviewing requirements and ensuring that quality criteria are met before a project moves on to the next phase.<\/strong> The project also produced scientific papers, e.g. on the automatic creation of a corner case data set using a tooling pipeline, which were subsequently presented by Niels Heller and Namrata Gurung at DATA 2022 in Lisbon.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tab hidden\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"0-1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tab-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The validation and release of AI systems for autonomous vehicles requires extensive training and testing of the algorithms with a wide range of situations.<br \/>\nThis requires the <strong>synthetic generation of training data<\/strong><span class=\"whitespace-nowrap\">.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><strong>QualityMinds was able to take on many tasks within the &#8220;Synthetic data&#8221; international standardization<\/strong><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"text-element\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>The validation methodology with the included evidence for the derivation of systematic test and training methods was not only incorporated into national development, but was also used in international standardization, e.g. via ISO\/PAS 8800.<\/strong><strong> QualityMinds is constantly researching in the field of AI and has also successfully completed the Fraunhofer IAIS project &#8220;Attention &#8211; Artificial Intelligence for real-time injury prediction&#8221;. The testing world we live in and its paradigms will change significantly in the future through the use of AI. We meticulously examined <strong>corner cases<\/strong>\u2014scenarios where neural networks <strong>react unexpectedly<\/strong>\u2014to identify areas needing <strong>improvement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This collaborative effort led to significant <strong>advancements in autonomous driving safety<\/strong>, including the <strong>development of the Synthetic Pedestrian Dataset<\/strong> (<a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3568160.3570230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3568160.3570230\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">SynPeDS<\/a>), which supports performance evaluation of AI-based perception functions.
